Over Memorial Day weekend, Jess and I decided to treat our kids (and ourselves!) to something special—a movie day to see the brand-new live-action Lilo & Stitch. And let us tell you… we absolutely loved it.
This heartwarming remake beautifully captures everything we adored about the original film while adding a fresh, visually stunning take that both kids and adults can enjoy. From the moment Stitch appears on screen, you know you're in for something special. His design is a perfect blend of adorable and realistic, and we couldn’t get enough of his chaotic charm. Our kids were completely captivated—and okay, so were we!
Lilo & Stitch continues to hit us in the feels, even after all these years, because at its core, it’s a story about love, loss, and the messy, beautiful reality of what makes a family. It doesn’t shy away from the tough stuff—grief, loneliness, and feeling like an outsider—but it wraps those emotions in humor, heart, and a whole lot of aloha spirit. Lilo’s fierce loyalty, Nani’s struggle to hold it all together, and Stitch’s journey from chaos to connection remind us that family isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up, holding on, and choosing each other, no matter what. That message is timeless, and it still gets us every time. 💙
Don’t worry, true fans—the ice cream guy is still here, and yes, he’s still tragically losing his cone in the most spectacular ways. It wouldn’t be Lilo & Stitch without him silently suffering through dessert-related disasters, and the live-action version lovingly keeps that tradition alive. Every time he popped up, our theater gave a little chuckle of recognition—because really, what’s more iconic than Stitch chaos and a dropped scoop of mint chocolate chip? Justice for the ice cream guy… but also, please never stop. 🍦💔
One of the absolute standouts was Maia Kealoha as Lilo. She brought so much heart, humor, and authenticity to the role, reminding us why we fell in love with Lilo in the first place. The entire cast was thoughtfully chosen and really leaned into the emotional depth of the story without losing the playful spirit we all remember.
What surprised us most was how well the film balanced tug-at-your-heart moments with genuine laugh-out-loud fun. There were more than a few scenes that had us misty-eyed… and just as many that had the whole theater giggling.
One of the best surprises in the new live-action Lilo & Stitch is that Elvis still gets to be part of the story—and it totally works! Just like in the original, his music plays a fun and meaningful role in the film, adding that iconic, toe-tapping energy we all remember. It’s woven in as both a tribute to Lilo’s quirky love for “The King” and a playful nod to what made the animated version so memorable. Hearing those familiar Elvis tunes in a fresh setting brought big smiles to our faces and added a layer of nostalgic charm that fans of the original will absolutely appreciate.
Whether you're a lifelong fan of the original or watching this story unfold for the first time with your little ones, this live-action version is a beautiful, heartfelt tribute. It’s the kind of movie that brings families together—which, as Lilo reminds us, is really what it’s all about.
